Background location
What we disclose in the app: "Watch My Back uses your location in the background while a safety session is running, so your check-in timer keeps working with your screen off. Your location is only shared with the trusted contacts you chose, and only if you trigger an alert or miss a check-in."
- When: only during a safety session that you start, from the moment you start it until you end it or check in.
- How you know: a persistent notification is visible on your phone the whole time a session is running.
- How to stop it: end the session at any time, or turn the permission off in Android Settings → Apps → Watch My Back → Permissions.
Microphone
What we disclose in the app: "During a safety session, Watch My Back can listen on this device for a voice trigger you set up, so you can raise an alert hands-free. Listening happens on your phone only — audio is not recorded to our servers or sent anywhere."
- When: only during a safety session that you start, and only if you have enabled the voice-trigger feature.
- How you know: the session notification stays visible while listening is active, alongside Android's own microphone indicator.
- How to stop it: end the session, disable the voice trigger in the app, or turn the permission off in Android Settings.
Camera
What we disclose in the app: "Watch My Back uses the camera only when you open a feature that needs it, such as attaching a photo to a session."
- When: only while you are actively using that feature. The camera is never used in the background.
- How you know: you see the camera preview on screen, and Android shows its camera indicator.
- How to stop it: close the feature, or turn the permission off in Android Settings.
The rule behind all three: nothing here runs on its own. Sessions are started by you, in the app, for a job you're about to do — and they stop when you say so. See the privacy policy and data safety page for how the data itself is handled.
